Continuously improve the effectiveness, relevance, and quality of programs.

Action: Reward research scientists to produce FWRC publications, co-author Extension publications, technology transfer brochures, and other informative publications for constituents and the general public.

Objective 6.
Increase the visibility of the research, teaching, and extension programs.

Action: Publicize undergraduate and graduate teaching programs to increase recruitment of students in relation to goals.

  1. Ensure that high school counselors, community college representatives, parents/guardian, and appropriate others have complete information on career opportunities and alumni successes, as well as current information on entrance and course requirements.
  2. Have current and Web-based academic information. Work with the Publications Editor in this effort.
  3. Develop innovative Web-based products including video, “face-book”, etc. for recruitment of new students.
  4. Develop distance-learning opportunities for K-12 teachers, including credit-based courses.

Action: Publicize student and faculty activities and accomplishments. Encourage high-visibility activities. Publicize technology transfer, technical assistance, and continuing education activities and accomplishments. Awareness should be addressed on campus, within the state and region, and nationally and internationally where appropriate. Use electronic media as well as other media effectively in this process.

  1. Publish a college-level annual report and periodic newsletters comparable to the FWRC annual report.
  2. Publicize faculty and staff receiving awards through brochures, the CFR web site, and other appropriate media.
  3. Continue the Dean’s Notes for internal use.

Action: Develop and implement a publicity action plan.

  1. Recognize scientists receiving research awards, patents, copyrights, and other major accomplishments through brochures, the CFR web site, and other appropriate media.

Action: Continue to communicate FWRC accomplishments and benefits internally and externally.

  1. Report accomplishments and benefits of research projects.
  2. Develop synthesis of accomplishments and benefits at department and Center levels.

Action: Communicate and distribute results from appropriate FWRC research on forests, forest products, wildlife and fisheries to the state of Mississippi and its constituents.

Action: Annually assess and communicate to faculty and staff the productivity and benefits of CFR and FWRC investments.

  1. Develop an economic impact assessment of CFR/FWRC investments.

Objective 7.
Develop and maintain operating procedures, administrative structure and processes that promote excellence.

Action: Recognize excellence with an annual award in undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising and mentoring.

  1. Encourage and recognize faculty pedagogical research and scholarship.
  2. Academic Affairs Coordinator, with assistance from NACADA, will explore development of guidelines for effective advising of undergraduate students.
  3. Establish a college-level advising award.
  4. Continue to publicize award winners in newsletters and annual reports.

Action: Recognize excellence with an annual award in research and service. Recognize and reward excellence in technology transfer, educational and technical assistance activities; planning and contributions to continuing education programs; service to scientific and professional organizations and other constituent groups; and service within the University, the College/Center, and within departments.

  1. Assess nomination and selection process and revise accordingly on a continuing basis.
  2. Publicize award winners.
  3. Identify and implement additional means to encourage and recognize excellence.
  4. Nominate faculty, staff, graduate students and others as appropriate for internal and external awards.
  5. Seek to monetarily compensate faculty who garner extraordinary achievement awards that do not automatically reward recipients.
