<p>Job Responsibilities:<br />&bull; Marks timber sale boundaries, SMZ&rsquo;s, etc., in compliance with state BMP&rsquo;s and SFI requirements.<br />&bull; Conducts timber inventories.<br />&bull; Supervises contract operations to ensure compliance with the terms of the contracts.<br />&bull; Completes timber sale inspections.<br />&bull; Manage weekly wood order to ensure deliveries have been made to various wood receiving mills.<br />&bull; Collects GPS field data as required.<br />&bull; Implement cultural and management treatments associated with optimal stand development, asset protection and overall income contribution within constraints of SFI.<br />&bull; Provide support to FRC management in the development of strategic business plans and opportunities for growth.<br />&bull; Maintain a thorough knowledge of land and timber values in area of operation as well as new technologies and strategies in forest management.<br />&bull; Manage special projects as assigned.<br />&bull; Promote a positive image of FRC to clients, associates, contractors, and the community in your operating area.</p>

Required Education:

<p>&bull; Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Forestry or 2-year Forestry Degree.</p>

Required Experience:

<p>&bull; Prefer, three to six years&rsquo; experience in managing timberland in southeastern states, but will train a good candidate.<br />&bull; Practical experience in SFI practices and recordkeeping<br />&bull; Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and ability to inspire clients&rsquo; confidence<br />&bull; Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills<br />&bull; Working knowledge of standard computer software packages, i.e., Word, Excel, Access<br />&bull; Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads.</p>

Skills:

Job Description:

One graduate research assistantship is available for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student in the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts at Mississippi State University (MSU). The successful candidate will be involved in a multidisciplinary project in the field of timber engineering with a focus on performance evaluation of timber components and structures. In particular, the candidate will investigate the parameters affecting structural performance of interior guard systems. The PhD candidate will be involved in both experimental and computer simulation work. The successful candidate will be funded during the study period (3 years) with an assistantship, plus tuition, fees and insurance.

The candidate must:

  • Possess undergraduate and graduate degrees relevant to the topic of the study, preferably in civil (structural) engineering and/or wood science
  • Previously attained and maintained exceptional academic standing (min GPA 3.0 on 4.0 scale basis)
  • Have a TOEFL score of 79 iBT or IELTS score of 6.5 or better (students with non-English credentials only)
  • Be adaptive to multi-disciplinary research work requirements
  • Be an excellent team-player

Initially, the position is primarily field work focused on harvest operations planning, layout and contractor supervision. Inventory and other field forestry applications are also important elements of this position. The position will include preparing forest management plans, and road design, layout and construction oversight. Our team serve in a variety of capacities in the maintenance of existing client relationships. The position is located in Holly Springs, MS. Candidates should possess, or be willing to acquire, forestry licenses in MS & TN.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operations: Field work involving planning and laying out of harvest units, marking timber, inspecting active harvest operations and closeout, maintaining timber sale records, collecting GPS data.

• Inventory: Collecting field data, following LandVest cruise protocols, and preparing cruise reports.

• Other Field Work: Boundary work, road and trail layout and other assigned field tasks.

• Office: Management plan development, project administration, data analysis

• Other: Sawmill and Logging Operations

 

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from an SAF accredited program.

Required Experience:

• Operations related field experience strongly preferred but LandVest is willing to train less experienced staff.


• Knowledge of and ability to implement mixed northern hardwood and spruce-fir silviculture is required. White pine silviculture knowledge helpful.


• Ability to demonstrate sound planning skills, natural curiosity to observe and learn, basic forestry skills, understanding of harvest operations and cruising skills will be a focus of the hiring process.


• Good computer skills in most elements of Microsoft Office; GPS and introductory GIS skills.


• Reliable 4WD vehicle. Pay and Benefits:
